(KTEN) — Former Texas teachers could be looking at a little extra money in their bank accounts if a bill now being considered by state lawmakers is passed. House Bill 600 proposes both an increase in pension payments and a one-time lump sum check for older retirees. The percent increase depends on how long a teacher has been retired. If the bill passes, it will be the first increase in Texas teacher pension payments in almost 20 years."As insurance has gone up — and my retirement has not — I lose money,  so my check is less than it was then," said retired educator Bill Hurst.
